Teacher Task Force at Digital Learning Week 2026

The Teacher Task Force will contribute to UNESCO’s Digital Learning Week 2026, bringing the role of teachers to the forefront of discussions on artificial intelligence and the future of education. Taking place under the theme Education in the age of AI: Facts | Frictions | Frontiers, the event will bring together policymakers, practitioners, researchers and partners to examine the opportunities and challenges AI is creating across education systems, and how human agency and equity can remain at the centre of digital transformation.

On 9 September, two TTF sessions will focus specifically on teachers and the teaching profession:

• Building, protecting and expanding teachers’ agency: Evidence from professional development models | 9:30–10:45
  Moderated by Davide Ruscelli of UNESCO’s Section for Teacher Development, the session will explore how professional development can strengthen teachers’ agency in the age of AI, drawing on experiences from different education systems.
   
• Teachers at the centre: Agency, competencies and the teacher–student relationship | 15:00–16:00
  Moderated by Carlos Vargas, Chief of UNESCO’s Section for Teacher Development, this plenary panel will examine the competencies and agency teachers need in an AI-mediated education landscape and the implications for the teacher–student relationship.

These two sessions will highlight the importance of placing teachers at the centre of decisions about AI in education, strengthening their professional agency and ensuring they have the competencies and support needed to navigate technological change.

Digital Learning Week takes place from 8 to 11 September 2026 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, with participation available in person and online.
